A Baldwin in the Brecon Beacons - The Brecon Mountain Railway - 10/07/15

Описание: It's been nearly eight years since I first visited the Brecon Mountain Railway, and until now, it was the only time I'd visited the line, as I'd never gotten around to making a second trip. However, watching an old GWP DVD about the railway sparked a desire to revisit the line, for a ride and a few line side shots. On the day of my visit, the line was operating to it's 'Green Timetable', consisting of four round trips, starting from their main station at Pant and up to Torpantau Station, opened in Spring 2014. Hauling the day's services, was the line's current stalwart Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacific no.2. Built in 1930 at the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, USA, she spent all her working life hauling limestone, for the Eastern Province Cement Co. Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Coming to grief in 1973, when she derailed and wrecked as a result of a run away. This was treated as an accident write-off by the South African insurers, and she was eventually rescued by the BMR in the early 1990s, returning to working order in 1997. A rather lovely engine, with a tremendous bark and an ever so gorgeous South African Railways chime whistle.
