Cardinal George Pell will be remembered as one of the nation's most prominent and powerful members of the Catholic clergy. His career in the priesthood reached all the way from Ballarat to the Vatican, but it was also dogged by scandal.
A royal commission found he'd failed to take adequate action on complaints about paedophile priests dating back to the 1970s. In 2018 he was convicted of historical sexual abuse. Despite being sentenced to prison, he maintained his innocence and walked free after his conviction was overturned on appeal. Lauren Day reports.
