There are many overlaps between watercolour and Chinese Ink. While not everything is transferable due to the difference in the materials used, Chinese Ink has a beautiful simplicity and energy that makes for fresh, dynamic and loose watercolours. For example, a bamboo leaf can be painted by a controlled stroke of the brush, a treetrunk through an energetic dry brush, a lotus by pressing the brush head carefully in situ.
I have tried to show how economical Chinese Ink style can be through this step-by-step illustrated tutorial on how to paint a Snail. I hope you try it!
