Numerous hypotheses have been proposed to account for the genesis of coral reefs, including variations in the Pleistocene sea level and the stability of the underlying terrain. The latter fact examines three scenarios: an island that is sinking, an island that is stationary, and a rising land that is accompanied by reefs.
Perhaps the most straightforward and straightforward to understand of the three types of reefs is the fringing reef. In the past, corals developed themselves within 30 fathoms, or around 50 meters, of appropriate underwater structures. However, because coral polyps cannot withstand prolonged exposure to the atmosphere, upward growth ended when the reef reached low tide, while outward growth toward the sea persisted.
