Rescue workers cleared away the shattered concrete and twisted steel of a collapsed four-storey building beside the bombed US embassy in Nairobi overnight on Wednesday (11-12/8) after recovering 24 bodies, including that of bank employee Rose Wanjuki. The wrecked car believed to be at the centre of the attack on the US Embassy in Nairobi was removed from the bomb site on Wednesday (12/08) for forensic testing. Kenyan President Arap Moi visited the scene again to pay his condolences to the relatives of victims and also to thank the rescue teams for their efforts. Finally, US ambassador to Kenya Prudence Bushnell joined the rescue teams from Israel, France and the United States for a wreath-laying ceremony at the bomb site.
