On 1 August 1944, the Warsaw Uprising broke out. At the situation conference in the early hours of 2 August 1944, Hitler ordered Warsaw to be destroyed - and everyone who was there. By 4 August 1944, powerful police and renegade forces supported by the Wehrmacht were available and they started their way into the centre of the capital, starting with the western working class district of Wola. The order to kill everyone was countermanded by Erich von dem Bach Zalewski who instead ordered everyone to be transported out of the capital. A number of transit 'camps' were made, which in turn led to the larger transit camp Durchgangslager 121 at Pruszków which can be seen in this video.
The Pruszków camp was built on a former railway repair yard. In this video, you can see the situation today.
