By the time you're ready to acquire a new one you probably had so many memories in your first car. Memories are hard to give away. At this point, it is harder to sell your first car than it is to tell your high school crush that you love them. To a potential buyer, this is an obviously wrecked econobox. To you, this is an econobox with every embarrassing missed shift or engine stall. The being stranded in the middle of nowhere with no one coming to save you. The single-person accident which is the reason your memory isn't so good. This car was there when those things happened and it is what you remember. The car becomes a part of you. The sentiment is probably worth more than the actual car is. Car stories after all are just people's stories.
