LONDON — Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, appears to have knowingly shared sensitive government information with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a British trade envoy, according to newly released documents in the United States.

The disclosures, which emerged from a fresh batch of legal files, suggest that between 2010 and 2011, Andrew forwarded confidential reports and details of investment opportunities to Epstein. At the time of these exchanges, Epstein was already a convicted sex offender.

Emails indicate that on October 7, 2010, the former prince sent Epstein itineraries for official government trips to Singapore, Vietnam, and China. In a subsequent exchange on November 30, Andrew appeared to forward official visit reports from his special assistant, Amit Patel, to Epstein just five minutes after receiving them.

Perhaps most notably, correspondence from Christmas Eve 2010 shows Andrew sending Epstein a confidential briefing regarding investment prospects in the reconstruction of Helmand Province, Afghanistan—a project overseen by British armed forces and funded by the U.K. government.

“I was unaware of Andrew sharing information about investment opportunities before; this is the first I've heard of it,” said Sir Vince Cable, who served as business secretary at the time.

The role of a trade envoy is not a civil service position but carries a strict duty of confidentiality regarding sensitive commercial and political information, governed by the Official Secrets Acts of 1911 and 1989.

Andrew has strenuously denied any wrongdoing, and his legal team has maintained that his association with Epstein does not imply misconduct. He stated in a 2019 BBC interview that he had severed ties with the financier in December 2010. However, the newly surfaced emails, including a February 2011 suggestion that Epstein invest in a private equity firm Andrew had visited, challenge that timeline.

The revelations add to years of scrutiny surrounding Andrew’s relationship with Epstein, which ultimately led to the stripping of his royal titles last October. In recent days, the former prince has vacated his residence at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, relocating to Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate.
