Hello all!
First of all, for some reasons, I did not get an allocation on 992 GT3 RS from my dealer, but that is ok because i changed my philosophy at the same time :-)
so Here is the first test drive with my new car who replace the GT2 RS MR!!
a 100% NURBURGRING TRACK TOY!
My brand new car is a 2021 992 GT3 with manual gear box, steel brakes, , manthey suspension, manthey brakes upgrade which is consist to some brakes lines, fluid and brake pads (full MR aero conversion will be probably installed later on)
ALL OF THIS IS PORSCHE TEQUIPMENT AND MAKE IT FULL STOCK CAR WITH official FACTORY WARRANTY
GT2 was sold after 65kkms of intense use, so it was time for her to take some good holidays i think :-)
..
After done around 50 laps under 7min including 5LAPS in 6.44 btg with the gt2, i must say that fighting for insane fast laptime is not something that i like anymore.
By experience, that game of superfast btg laptiming on the nurburgring (superfast is under 6.55 at my opinion and no mistakes are allowed at that speed otherwise you crash hard)
That is very very risky on public track day with a street car not equipped with full cage and not with the full Marshalls post safety we can experience in nurburgring endurance racing for exemple.
Also arriving Kesselchen at 270+ when you find at the same place one other car with a beginner driver at 180km/h, isn’t something very pleasant, especially when you think about the result if you kick his ass...
And i must say that even with a lot of training i knew that i will never ever beat the factory drivers on that game with same car and with in public trackday conditions, that is impossible.
So why continuing driving for the fastest btg challenge with at the end no trophy or glory except to be « the fastest amateur »? I have personally nothing to prove on that way and this is an « unofficial » competition in any case.
Every fast btg guys must know that a record, even an Amateur one, will always be beaten by someone else….THERE IS ALWAYS A BIGGER FISH TO EAT THE SMALLER ONE :-)
So Enjoying this GT3 on track day or tf at some various speed is the things i like to do now and i keep nurburgring NLS racing to be in a 100% pushing spirit….normally in the 992 CUP car next year :-)
And Make a good result on the 24hrs nurburgring will have more sense for me :-)
So this GT3 is clearly slower on track than gt2 or gt3 rs or even 992 gt3 with pdk gear box, i think a manual vs PDK gear box 992 GT3 would be around 7/8 secs slower on the NURBURGRING with same driver.
And Then WHY i choose this car compare to a PDK version or even a 991 gt3 rs?
MAINLY for the driving pleasure, the emotions and the connection between the driver and the car that a manual gear box offer to the driver and that with a modern AAA chassis and aero!
The manual gear box of this car is a butter and a real pleasure to play with, much better than the one from the 997 gt3 rs or even the 991 gt3 touring or 991.2 GT3 for exemple.
The gear ratio is a bit long, but that is ok and finally iam using only 3/4/5 gear on the nordschleife, maybe the 2nd gear on a super fast lap on two corners but not 100% sure...
If we talk a bit about the lap you can watch on this video, that was my 10th laps ever in this car, done on private track day with brand new stock Pirelli Pzero tires, i brake super early and i was very gentle with the speed and momentum because i need more driving time into her to be good and safe, so a very gentle pleasant discovery lap :-)
In 2023 i will use the car only on michelin sport cup 2 normal and maybe one day i will try cup 2 r if perfect conditions, sub 7 lap is definitely possible for this car!
Few words about this 992 plateform, first the sound is REALLY INCREDIBLE especially compared to the GT2!
It sound even better from inside compare to a gt3 rs with OPF
The engine who take 9krpm is something that i missed a lot and iam so happy of this changing compare to the gt2
Second, the chassis of the car is an absolute game changer, the front end but also the general stability and even the stock aero performing very very well, iam SOOO impressed
The manthey suspension improve clearly the handling of the car and make it really more gentle on every kerbs and so as usual give one car more easy than the stock car which is already easy
I noticed that the manthey suspension offer a more sweet and confortable car for street driving use
So the car is 95% great….there is only something bad about the brake feeling that every gt3 owner who track the car noticed
The car brakes well but the pedal feeling is not very very good, there is clearly something not so right about the stock ABS calibration, i heard from Porsche that this problem will be solved next year, then it will be at my opinion the perfect nurburgring track tools for plenty enjoying that track !!!
