Proving Faith Without Destroying Assurance

God never saved His people so they would live in constant uncertainty. He did not redeem us so we would spend our days afraid to examine our faith. He saved us so we could live in what Scripture calls blessed assurance.

In this first message of the series, we begin where God begins. With a command.

2 CORINTHIANS 13:5
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Examination is not cruelty. It is obedience.
Testing faith does not destroy assurance. It exposes what assurance is resting on.

In a day where questioning a testimony is called unloving, the Bible calls untested confidence dangerous. False peace comforts people all the way to judgment, and God condemns it plainly.

JEREMIAH 6:14
14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

This message is not about tearing down salvation. It is about removing false confidence so true assurance can stand. Faith in the wrong person does not save. Faith in the wrong object does not save. Faith in the wrong message does not save.

But faith placed fully in the Lord Jesus Christ, in His shed Blood, and in the gospel according to Scripture produces assurance that is not fragile, not emotional, and not shaken by examination.

1 JOHN 5:13
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If your assurance is real, Scripture will not threaten it.
If your faith is genuine, truth will not harm it.
If Christ is truly in you, examination will settle you, not shake you.
