The truth about lowering your handicap lies in a few keys points.
I’m not going to cover all of them but I’ll give you a breakdown quickly based on giving more then 10,000 lessons. Based on my experience I feel these are the most important.
1. You NEED to simplify your swing. Just focus on 1 move that counteracts your worst flaw. Most importantly first work with a coach and get some TrackMan data to support the reason why the flaw is happening. Then work diligently only on that flaw to reverse it over time. This is how I coach my students.
2. 80/20 rule: 80% of your shots should be practiced from 100 yards and in. I don’t care if you hit it crooked, I don’t care if you hit it long, I don’t care to you hit it short. This is the most important rep ratio to respect in golf. 80% from 100 and in.
3. Rory who is the most talented physical player of our generation says he has won more tournaments with his mind vs his physical abilities. So here are 3 ways to work on your mind:
1: Develop a pre shot routine that repeats like clock work.
2: Learn how to let go… I find what makes this process easy is focusing on my breath, slowing down my breath… treating golf as a walking meditation.
3: ALWAYS play to the wide side of the course, at all costs. You are not good enough to hunt flags.
