Life is meaningless. But in that pointlessness, we can find a matching power. This is the idea Sonny Boy communicates. The 2021 anime tells the story of Nagara, Nozomi, and Mizuho, as their school is sent a drift in a void they call This World, where they each gain some sort of "super power." Through a storm of surrealism, and the exploration of many worlds and their artifacts, the anime makes a clear communication; that there is no point. The plot details the meaninglessness of everything, from those "super powers," to their love, to entire lives. But, it doesn't take a fully Nihilist approach, instead opting for a hopeful optimism...
