This song was written by a Dutch singer, Johannes (Hans) Bouwens, who performed under a country-music stage name, George Baker. It's kind of a sappy peace-and-freedom anthem that topped Billboard's "easy listening" chart for 1976. A clue to the nature of the song: Slim Whitman covered it. And a Brit band gave it a kind of Weird Al treatment, recasting it as "I Am A Cider Drinker."
Nevertheless, it makes a pretty good brass quintet tune (in parrt because you don't have to hear the lyrics).
