I've made videos featuring many different Scrabble legends -- Nigel Richards, Joe Edley, and several others. But one legend who hasn't been featured, but absolutely deserves to be, is David Gibson.
David was a 2-time National Champion who held the top ranking for years, if not decades. His trademark wasn't finding crazy disconnected 10s and endgame sequences like Nigel Richards. Instead, David pioneered and thrived at a very defensive and space-oriented approach to Scrabble. David's brand of Scrabble might not have been as "exciting" to watch in a sense, but you can't deny how effective it was for him based on the consistency of his results.
Sadly, David passed away 5 years ago (almost exactly to the day) from cancer, which was a huge loss since he was a super kind and generous person besides being a great player. I was fortunate enough to get to play him in a tournament, and also fortunate that even though it was only once, it was a great game.
