Growing up in a haunted house, many of my childhood memories were involving ghosts. I know this is something that not everyone believes in, but once you’ve experienced something paranormal, nothing anyone says can make you doubt it.

And I couldn't a=escape the fact that this house was so haunted. Have you ever walked into a room and felt a strange, cold sensation? I grew up in an old and very beautiful house. And in that scary, most haunted house, my brother David and I heard ghosts. You see, our bedrooms were on the top floor and could hear them walking through the halls and talking in the billiard room next door. We never had a ghost caught on camera but we could hear them and it felt like a haunted place.

My father didn't believe in ghosts. My mother admitted there were ghosts in the house but said that they were benign. It seemed that only the dogs could actually see them.

Of all of my childhood memories in that Yorkshire house, the scariest one had to do with a room where my brother’s friends would stay. Three of his friends at different times swore that they had woken up and seen the shape of a man's head with a cloth cap staring at them.

My parents had another house in Cornwall. This too had a spirit within it. Although I had very pleasant memories there, I always felt something strange as I passed the stairs. It was only later on that I learned that a previous resident, the sweet maker, had died right at the bottom of those stairs.

These are experiences that I’ll never forget. If you’ve had childhood memories that involve ghosts or otherwise unexplainable things, then don’t let anyone diminish them.

Living in a haunted house has taught me that you know what you know.

And no one can take that away.
