Hoi Tod is a popular Thai street food dish that consists of crispy fried mussel pancakes. The dish's name translates to "pan-fried oyster omelet" in English, but the dish typically features mussels rather than oysters.
To make Hoi Tod, a batter made of rice flour, cornstarch, water, and eggs is mixed with small mussels, garlic, and Chinese celery. The mixture is then fried in a hot pan until the edges are crispy and golden brown. Sometimes, bean sprouts are added to the batter for extra texture.
The Hoi Tod is usually served with a spicy and tangy dipping sauce made from Thai chili peppers, vinegar, sugar, and fish sauce. Some vendors also serve it with a side of fresh lettuce, mint leaves, and cilantro.
Hoi Tod is a popular street food in Thailand, especially in Bangkok and coastal areas, and it's often eaten as a snack or a light meal. It's a savory dish with a crispy texture, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
