Japan hunts for whale meat despite barely anyone eating it. Why have whalers pressed on? Anti-anti Whaling has the answer, and it’s not about upholding traditions.
Whale meat sits peculiarly in fish markets of Japan, not because whales are endangered, but because the meat remains largely untouched in markets. Nevertheless, whalers continue firing their harpoons for whale meat. Seemingly a simple matter of preserving local cuisine, whale meat marks a much more intricate – but somehow ludicrous – scheme, as the documentary dives into the depths of accounts told about whalers in Japan.
