Saskatchewan - Land of the Living Skies | A Time Lapse Film

Описание: Saskatchewan is affectionately known as the “Land of the Living Skies”. So it was only natural that when I began nature photography, I was drawn to Saskatchewan’s vibrant sunsets, powerful storms, and its dark night sky. It wasn’t until 2018 that I attempted time lapse photography of Saskatchewan’s big open sky. That time lapse depicted a storm racing across the prairie in a way that a simple still photo could not do, I was instantly fascinated with the idea of creating a time-lapse film that showcased many of the epic and powerful sky events that happen every year in Saskatchewan.

So, for the remainder of the summer in 2018 I shot half a dozen time-lapses that showed Saskatchewan was indeed the Land of the Living Skies. Things picked up during a busy 2019 storm season, and I almost abandoned nature photography all-together in my pursuit of the epic rain, and storm events that occur each summer across the Saskatchewan prairie.

The highlight was the supercell thunderstorm that hit south of Regina, Saskatchewan on July 25th. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get enough time-lapse of that storm to include in this film, but I was able to chase with two close friends who experienced the power of a supercell thunderstorm for the first time.

I need to say a big thank you to Marcus Braun, a Saskatchewan musician who created the music you hear in this time-lapse film. I approached him about making a song specifically for this project and he was more than happy to help me out. Needless to say, I was blown away by the piece he put together and I think it truly fits the project. I hope you enjoy. Make sure you check out his links below!

Last but most importantly, I need to thank my wife, Tori. This film is the culmination of two years of clips, thousands of miles driven, and hundreds of hours away from home. She has always been behind me, pushing and supporting me, looking after the kids and running the house while I’m away chasing this dream. This would not happen without you.

All time lapse clips were taken in Saskatchewan. They were all captured using a Nikon D800e, a Tamron 70-200 2.8 lens, and a Tamron 15-30 2.8 lens.
