Let's have a quick glance at what algorithmic trading itself is. To put it simply it's the use of computers or computer programs in order to set rules to trade.

In a traditional manner or in a traditional set up what we call manual or discretionary setup, we do our kind of analysis various people do the analysis and they come up with some broad thumb rules in terms of how they want to trade but it's rarely solidified into something very concrete.

What this domain as in quantitative trading or algorithmic trading does is it tries to be a little more precise when it comes to the kind of rules that you want to set in order to eg. 'buy at a given point in time' or 'sell at a given point in time'.

You are essentially using computers or programming to formulate, validate and implement rules that you want to use when you trade.
