Nick brings us the forecast this week. We have had some good reports from the mountain brook trout streams for the past week. Water flows are average to above average on most our regional streams. Temps are rising a bit with this warm weather. Highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's are creating some ideal conditions to be out in the woods stalking brookies. No reports of Quill Gordon's just yet but we anticipate we will be seeing some on the east slopes of the Blue Ridge soon. Caddis are popping and dry dropper rigs are working well. You will likely have more success fishing nymphs right now but with a long cold winter everyone is excited for that classic dry fly bite! The spring creeks are full of water and running slightly stained to green. Streamer fishing has been great on overcast days and early and late. Nymphs and dry dropper rigs with big bushy caddis are working as well. Keep an eye for some of our bigger caddis hatches over the next few weeks on the spring creeks. DWR is out stocking like crazy. Local spots most recently stocked include- Silver Lake, Hearthstone Lake, Elkhorn Lake, Briery Branch Lake, Hone Quarry Lake and Run, upper and lower Sherando Lake, Back Creek, Jackson River, Rose River, Robinson, Hughes, and Stony Creek in Shenandoah County. Grab your attractor streamers, nymphs, indicators, and split shot for those streams and lakes! Water temps on the Shenandoah have been hovering around 55 degrees mid day. Big bass have been much more willing to bite with the recent temp increase. Musky may start early stages of spawn as they have become more challenging to find and to get to chase. There are a lot of anglers out fishing this week so keep an eye out for updates throughout the week on our social media channels.
