Описание: The Malian government posted on social media on Sunday, October 1, 2023, that “intense fighting” erupted at 6:00 a.m. between the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) and an alliance of separatist Tuareg groups led by the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA), who claimed to have taken control of a fourth military base in the town of Bamba in Gao Region. On Saturday, the CMA claimed it killed 80 Malian soldiers during an attack in the center of the country. According to the BBC, the Malian government announced that a military base in the Mopti Region came under attack by the CMA but gave no details. The CMA has reportedly seized control of military bases in Lere, Dioura, and Bourem recently as the FAMa and CMA fight for control of Mali’s central and northern deserts. Since the departure of troops in support of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) at the behest of the Malian military junta recently, the CMA and the FAMa have been competing for the military bases vacated by MINUSMA forces.
