The Proton-M rocket with the DM-03 upper stage launches the Elektro-L No.5 hydrometeorological satellite into geostationary orbit from Baikonur Cosmodrome.
This mission marks the final launch of a DM-type upper stage from Baikonur and the 300th flight of the D/DM family from the historic spaceport since 1967.
Electro-L satellites form part of Russia’s geostationary weather monitoring system, capturing multispectral images of Earth, collecting heliophysical data, transmitting hydrometeorological information, and relaying COSPAS-SARSAT emergency beacon signals.
