PANDAS stands for paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder associated with strep, and PANS stands for paediatric acute onset neuropsychiatric syndrome and it can be triggered by other infectious agents and environmental factors and metabolic disturbances. The symptoms include sudden overnight onset OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and / or food restrictions with at least 2 or more symptoms which can include things such as abrupt tics, sleep disturbances, hallucinations, increase in urinary frequency, anxiety such as separation anxiety, depression, mood swings, a near catatonic state, brain fog, pseudobulbar affect, loss of co-ordination, decline in handwriting and maths ability, hyperactivity and inattention (symptoms akin to ADHD) and more.
