Описание: Watch a historic conversation between iconic architect Philip Johnson and academic/cultural thought leader and Dallas Architecture Forum founding Board President Richard Brettell, PhD about Sacred Architecture, focused on Johnson’s designs for places of worship. Philip Johnson had been commissioned in the mid-1990s to design a sanctuary for the Cathedral of Hope, located in Dallas with one of the largest LGBTQ congregations in the United States. In this video, which occurred December 15, 1998 at the Dallas Museum of Art, Brettell overviews iconic Sacred Architecture, with emphasis on Johnson’s completed places of worship. Brettell and Johnson engage in conversation about his conceptual design for the Cathedral of Hope. Note -- Though the plan for the main cathedral was not realized (only the bell tower was constructed), Johnson’s original concept for the Interfaith Peace Chapel was fully actualized and completed by Dallas based architect Gary Cunningham, FAIA. This unique opportunity to watch Johnson and Brettell in conversation is offered as a memorial tribute to Dr. Brettell on his recent passing. The Forum acknowledges our esteemed Advisory Board Member, architect, and historian Mark Gunderson, AIA, who made this recording available for The Forum’s YouTube channel.
