Thousands of protesters gathered in Milan to denounce the environmental, social, and economic consequences of the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. Demonstrators carried banners with slogans such as “Free Mountains” and cardboard trees to oppose deforestation for sports facilities. At least 100 protesters clashed with police, throwing firecrackers, bottles, and smoke bombs before being dispersed. Student and environmental organizations also condemned the massive use of artificial snow and unchecked urban development, warning that these practices are transforming Milan into an unlivable city.
