A boil is a skin infection that makes the skin red in the area of the infection. These boils can be pus-filled. Face, neck, armpits, & shoulders are the most common places for boils to appear.

Causes
Most boils are caused by staphylococcal bacteria. When germs enters the body through cuts in the skin or settle down near the follicles boils can occur.
People are more prone to get skin infections If:
They have diabetes
They have problems with the immune system
They get poor nutrition
They have poor hygiene
They have allergies to certain skin products
Symptoms of Boils
A boil starts as a hard, red, painful lump and over the next few days it gets filled with pus looks like a sac filled with white liquid.
The skin around the boil turns red, & gets painful
Multiple boils may appear near the infected area
Fever.

When to Seek Medical Care
Rise in body temperature
Swollen lymph nodes.
Severe pain due to boils
The boil does not drain.
A second boil appears.


Boils usually do not need immediate medical attention. However, if they cause high fever and shivers, then talking to a dermatologist is a good way to start treatment.
