The tourists were travelling from Banaras to Kathmandu to visit the Pashupati Nath temple when the incident occurred in Maharagunj. According to reports from the scene, protesters vandalised the bus by pelting it with stones, resulting in shattered windows. Several passengers sustained minor injuries in the attack. The assailants also looted belongings, including bags and mobile phones from the tourists. One of the passengers recounted, "They surrounded us from all four sides, started breaking the gate, and our bags were also looted." The affected tourists have since been transported back to India by plane.
