This is my entry for the IFMC Summer 2023 film contest. This is my first time participating in this contest and I loved working on scoring this animation. Here is a little bit about my process below, I'm very excited to check out everyone else's!
Comment: I wanted to bring out the playful and curious nature of the art mannequin first and foremost. I felt that if he were to come alive, he would draw heavily off of the surrounding pop culture references and youthful music taste of the student. The supporting sounds throughout are a variety of sticks, valve clicks, staccato woodwinds, bells, and light percussive instruments to represent the stiff and short movements of the mannequin. During the climatic dance scene, I wanted the score to have a strong latin pop feel to further bring out the groove and flow to the mannequin’s movements as he discovers his abilities. For the ending sequence, I wanted there to be a sense of unraveling as if the scene is coming out of a dream state and back to reality, with darker instruments conveying the judgment and disapproval of the student.
