The air temperature was in the mid 90s in early May. We left the car at 6:00 pm and hiked in about 6 miles to camp near the creek among the sandstone and lush desert oasis in Coyote Gulch. In the morning, we too a long day hike to the confluence with the Escalante River and back, seeing waterfalls, and natural arches along the way. With it being hot, we waded through the creek all day, trying to stay cool.
This trek is off of Hole in the Rock Road near Escalante, Utah, quite a ways out. Two days previous we had hiked out to Reflection Canyon, and just a couple days later we joined friends for a long day in Buckskin Gulch and Paria Canyon.
