A past winner of CBC Music's Searchlight, Desirée Dawson performs from The Garden Strathcona, one of Canada’s many cultural spaces highlighted in The Connected Music Series. Born and raised in Vancouver on the traditional, unceded lands of the xwməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səli̓ lwətaɁɬ / selí̓ lw̓ itulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations, the singer/songwriter brings the power of melodies, lyrics and instrumentation to encourage listeners to find a connection to the cultural space. Discover 20 emerging Canadian musicians, explore cultural spaces across the country, and meet the creatives behind Canada’s music industry. Connect to culture and communities, while staying apart.

The Garden is in the historical Strathcona neighborhood; the space resides upon the unceded and traditional territory of the Coast Salish peoples. The Garden Strathcona is an event space that’s also home to a curated shop full of beautiful, ethically sourced personal care and home items, and a café.
