Secret Gospel sound for Yamaha Montage M8

Описание: Back in 2021, Yamaha called me to do some sound design for the Montage M series.

I made quite a few presets, but one came straight from my roots : Praise and Worship. A patch made as an ode to gospel music.

With Yamaha being a huge staple in the black church sound, I felt it would be cool to make a path that honored the historic collaboration.

I say collaboration because groundbreaking synth workstations like the iconic Motif series (amongst others) helped created a sonic canvas for black culture to evolve through for decades. If you were a church musician back in the day, you played a Motif at some point. It was a household name.

But on Sundays, countless live recordings, tons of viral videos and more, the black church crafted a sound from that canvas that influenced music culture globally. As music communities around the world became aware of gospel music, they subsequently became more exposed to the Motif, if they hadn’t been already.

Praise and Worship was really an experiment to see if I could pay tribute to the black church, while amplifying it in an entirely new way, thanks to the incredible capabilities of the Montage M series.

I flew to the Yamaha Synth Space to talk to man himself Nate Tschetter, and go through a bit of what the sound was, and how it can be used in application.

This was a dream for me. Two things I grew up loving, meeting at the start of my still very young career as a sound designer.
