Greetings!
As the new year began, I welcomed it in the best way I know — on a journey to Saurashtra. The trip started aboard the iconic Somnath Express, an overnight service running from Gandhinagar to Veraval. I boarded from Chandlodiya B Railway Station, a suburban station of Ahmedabad, heading toward Junagadh Junction railway station.
This journey was all about the night. No dramatic landscapes, no postcard views just the rhythmic sound of wheels on tracks, the quiet conversations fading into silence, and that unmistakable calm of an Indian overnight train.
Adding to the charm, the train had recently been upgraded with modern LHB coaches when I traveled in January — smoother ride, better comfort, yet carrying the same old soul of overnight rail travel.
And the story doesn’t end there. From Junagadh, the exploration continued into the legacy of Gujarat’s metre-gauge routes , a chapter filled with nostalgia, history, and raw railfan energy.
This is just the beginning.
