Understanding Pathology Best Practices & Its Role in Your Care - Dr. Sarah Dry
Dr. Sarah Dry is Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA and a nationally recognized pathologist specializing in bone and soft tissue tumors. Trained at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and UCLA, Dr. Dry completed fellowships under world-renowned experts Dr. Christopher Fletcher and Dr. Klaus Lewin.
Before becoming Chair in 2021, she led UCLA’s Translational Pathology Core and Research Portal, supporting over 400 clinical trials and managing nearly 100,000 samples annually. Her NIH-funded work in biobanking has shaped consent practices now used by UCLA’s Institute of Precision Health, which has enrolled over 200,000 participants.
Dr. Dry has published extensively on sarcoma and GI pathology, with a recent focus on well-differentiated and dedifferentiated liposarcomas. She is the lead author of the dedifferentiated liposarcoma chapter in the forthcoming WHO Classification of Tumours. As department chair, she has championed efforts to make pathology reports more understandable and accessible to patients, empowering them to take an active role in their care.
In this session from the 2025 Sarcoma Exchange, hosted by the Sarcoma Alliance, Dr. Dry shares best practices in sarcoma-specific pathology and offers insights to help patients and caregivers better navigate the complexities of a sarcoma diagnosis.
