Captain Karnal Sher Khan was a Pakistani army officer who was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan's highest military award, for his bravery and sacrifice during the Kargil War between India and Pakistan in 1999.
Karnal Sher Khan was born on January 1, 1970, in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1994 and was commissioned in the 27th Sindh Regiment.
During the Kargil conflict, Captain Karnal Sher Khan led a successful operation to capture an Indian strategic post, located at the highest peak in the area, called "Point 4875." Despite facing heavy enemy fire, Captain Karnal Sher Khan fearlessly led his troops and succeeded in capturing the post. However, during the operation, he was hit by machine gun fire and embraced martyrdom on July 5, 1999.
For his exceptional bravery and leadership, Captain Karnal Sher Khan was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, becoming one of the few recipients of this prestigious honor. He is remembered as a national hero in Pakistan for his gallantry and sacrifice in defending the country's borders.
