Everyone chasing views with AI generated UGC is quietly burning money, and I brought on the one person with the conversion data to prove it. Nick co founded Sideshift, the platform where apps from Cursor to founders with a couple thousand dollars run their creator campaigns, with brands spending anywhere from a quarter million to north of $700,000 per month through it, and in this episode he pulls back the curtain on exactly which campaigns print and which ones flop. He looked at hundreds of campaigns and told me flat out that AI UGC is great for vanity views and terrible for conversions.
We map the entire journey starting from a $2,000 to $4,000 first month budget, including how to pay creators a $600 to $800 base retainer with a $1 to $2 CPM bonus for 30 to 60 videos, and why you remix a competitor format by 10 to 20% instead of copying it outright. Nick defines content market fit precisely, which is five or six videos clearing 10,000 views inside your first campaign, then explains the warm up formats that signal to the algorithm you are a real person before you ever plug in a call to action. Once you find that first winner he moves 90% of the creator cohort onto it and keeps 10% testing new formats so saturation never kills you. Then we get into the part almost nobody in the organic world touches, which is that the biggest spenders put 20% of budget into creative and 80% into performance, promoting any video that clears a 5% engagement rate. He breaks down starting at $100 a day on Meta, the difference between TikTok Spark ads and Meta ads for attribution, and how AI agents are now handling briefs, creator selection, and spend allocation.
