The show was created by the brilliant duo of Allan Burns and Chris Hayward. Their excellent writing is what helped create this memorable show. But what really made the show stand out was the excellent Munsters cast.

Sadly, many of the Munsters cast members are no longer with us. Let’s look back at their incredible careers. Their life’s journey can serve as an inspiration for you to pursue your own dreams.

The father of the Munsters family was Herman Munster, who closely resembled Frankenstein’s monster! He was played by actor Fred Gwynne. Fred Gwynne sadly passed away at the age of 66 from pancreatic cancer in 1993. He was a prolific and versatile actor in both film and television.

The mother was Lily played by veteran actress Yvonne De Carlo. She became a huge film star in the 1940s and 1950s. No doubt she helped catapult the popularity of the show when she was cast. She passed away in 2007 from heart failure.

There was also Grandpa Munster played by the legendary Al Lewis. He had an incredible career in theatre, radio, film, and television. He portrayed one of the most beloved characters on the show and continued to act after the show ended. He loved the character and appeared as Grandpa Munster several times following the end of the show. He died of natural causes in 2006.

We’ve also lost other key Munsters cast members such as Beverley Owen, Mel Blanc, and Bob Hastings. But we’ve still got Pat Priest and Butch Patrick with us to share stories of their experiences with The Munsters.
