PRESIDENT RAMOS-HORTA DISCUSSES BAYU-UNDAN TRANSITION AND POTENTIAL CARBON STORAGE INITIATIVE WITH SANTOS

Presidential Palace Nicolau Lobato – May 13, 2025

The President of the Republic, J. Ramos-Horta met with José Lobato Gonçalves, representing Santos, at the Presidential Palace to receive an update on the Bayu-Undan gas field and discuss potential future investments. The meeting provided an opportunity for the President to be briefed on the planned conclusion of Bayu-Undan’s production and explore new avenues for partnership.

President Ramos-Horta acknowledged Santos's report that due to strategic investments in tapping additional reserves, the operational life of the Bayu-Undan field was successfully extended until 2025. The Presidency understands that production is scheduled to cease at that point, after which the field will enter its decommissioning phase, marking the end of an important era for Timor-Leste's energy sector.
