Lange (1830-89) was a skilful German composer of salon music, and best known for his 'Blumenlied'. This unassuming but charming set of pieces depicts scenes from a young girl's life, and although it requires some finger dexterity, it is obviously written without using octaves so that it can be played by those with small hands (and was presumably advertised as such). What stands out is Lange's craftsmanship (the high opus number suggests the practice he had in composition before undertaking this work!)
