A common theme among many killings in Columbia is young people being involved as suspects. A juvenile has been suspected in 28% of the homicides in Columbia since 2022.
But young people KOMU 8 News spoke to in a roundtable interview said headlines about youth violence don't tell the full story.
KOMU 8 News sat down with Kayden Brandkamp, Keith Mosley IV, Addo Meiners and Tarandin Whitaker, whose ages range from 17 through 20, about the problems facing the community that drive young people to commit crimes.
They're all in the Youth Build program at Job Point, where they're learning practical trade skills to get a job. But, all four of these people have witnessed violent crime.
