Описание: Early days - we really thought we'd cracked it with this - I co wrote this with Dean Ford.
Hugely disappointed when it didn't make it in the UK.
Often wonder what route the band would have taken if it had!!
Still one of the most popular Marms recordings - especially with the true fanbase, other bands/muso's of the time.
Despite Hendrix quoting it as one of the best cuts of ‘67 … most “discovered” this record long after its release including Noel Gallagher ( in his all time top ten ) and the lovely Susanna Hoffs (Bangles) who covered it… Dave Gilmour and Mike Rutherford gave it the nod too ... and Graham Nash, who was at the recording session.... Indeed even Brian May … who told my daughter at LWT years ago that it was one of his alltime fave’s
Produced by Mike Smith ( and us), engineered by Mike Ross - recorded at the original CBS Studios in New Bond St London - this is the original mono recording - "with effects".
I distinctly remember me and Mike Ross spending hours splicing on the editing block - pieces of tape hanging here and there!! ( no "cut & paste then!).
To put this in time context, whilst we were farting around learning how to write and structure songs and studio craft ( I was 19 years old ) - the Beatles released Sgt Pepper 2 months later!
Some very strange dress sense and even stranger hairstyles!!!!!
The basic melody, guitar riff and title came to me one morning in my little flat in Hutton Grove N Finchley London in July 1967 - and yes, it was raining!!! Remember rehearsing it in a wee hall in Finchley we hired for practice then straight to CBS Studios ….
