W vs V Consonant Sounds - American English Listening and Pronunciation Practice

Описание: This video provides instruction on, and practice differentiating between, the /w/ and /v/ consonant sounds. Listen to and repeat the Minimal Pairs in order to hone your ear and practice the proper mouth positions for each sound. (Minimal Pairs are two words that sound the same EXCEPT FOR one sound.)

The /w/ and /v/ sounds take very different mouth positions.

To create the /w/ sound:
extend your lips forward as if you are going to whistle
activate your vocal cords

To create the /v/ sound:
touch your bottom lip to your top front teeth
activate your vocal cords

The /v/ sound is a continuant sound.
It's possible to hold the sound as long as your breath lasts.
