Following on from last week’s lesson, we continue our portrait practice, this time working on white and cream-toned paper to explore how oil pastels behave on lighter surfaces. I’ll show you just how simple it can be to sketch directly on the page, blend with minimal effort, and achieve a beautiful ghostly, aged effect with just a couple of pastel sticks.

We'll also look at how paper choice affects the outcome—comparing acrylic paper with cotton watercolour paper—and how colour blending, contrast, and surface texture contribute to the final look.
