This session explores Advanced Power Flow Control’s capability and maturity compared to traditional assets. APFC has many use cases, but is used as a digital "traffic controller" for the grid actively directing electrical power in a region, using modular hardware. As a result, it can move power from overloaded lines to those with spare capacity. Using dynamically balancing lines, cables and stations loading, APFC allows DSOs to unlock significant hidden capacity, reduce congestion often without the need for expensive new physical infrastructure, or added to maximise the performance of new circuits.
