As Malaysia's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) draws near, we interviewed and investigated the status of freedom of religion in Malaysia to understand the complexities for the legal framework and public perception when it comes to freedom of religion for all people in Malaysia.
The Coalition of Malaysian NGOs in the UPR Process (COMANGO) was formed by civil society organisations in 2008 to engage in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations. It is the biggest rights-based civil society coalition in Malaysia working on the UPR process with 52 member organizations. EMPOWER and Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM) acts as co-secretariats for COMANGO.
