This spring, Museum Van Loon will highlight the European fashion trends of the Van Loon family from around 1850 to the present. Portraits, photographs, authentic dresses and suits, accessories and documents will be on show, presenting a fine image of the personal fashion style of the Van Loon family.
In this video, costume historian Rosalie Sloof tells about Louise van Loon – Borski, the daughter of a fabulously wealthy banker. She was portrayed by the French society painter Alexandre Cabanel in 1887. The exceptionally large painting shows her wearing a special dress, which can still be found in the collection of Museum Van Loon. Rosalie shares the results of her study on this well-kept ensemble.
Philippa Van Loon tells about her memories of the fashion sense of her parents, Maurits and Ghislaine van Loon. She remembers how the family used to dress up for each dinner and the style of both her parents.
