My wife hearing for the first time with Cochlear Implant

English + Finnish subtitles included. Unedited footage of the activation of CI. Activation date 19th August 2014, around 11am. She has Usher Syndrome (a syndrome that causes progressive deafblindness, she was born deaf and with a severe visual impairment). Her hearing loss got so severe so she went through CI surgery on 2nd of July 2014. They did it for both ears at once and the surgery took about 6 hours. The doctor said after surgery it went "better than expected".

The doctor had problems with the device couple of times and couldn't get it on in the beginning. I wanted to capture the whole thing to keep it as a memory so I didn't cut out any parts, this is pure uncut version with only subtitles added for hard of hearing people. As for the comments like "the girl seems to not hear anything", yes she did if you watch it through. She is not just reacting with joy right away.

At 1:18 she starts to hear and is kinda surprised, after this the doctor messes ups the device volume and then tries to get it back up during next couple of minutes.

As for the comments "she is not crying": Everyone is different and my wife is not that "touchy type" when comparing to other similar videos like this on YouTube. Not everyone reacts the same way crying and emotional. My wife considers herself deaf and actually loves the silent world so CI is just a practical upgrade for her. In fact for me as a husband this was more of a moving situation, not for my wife. I'm the one who cries at movies and she has to comfort me "don't cry it's just a movie". People are different!

The doctor calibrated one ear at a time and finally activated both ears, you can see that in 08:16.
