The second video in our series, FRAME Views: Connected Retail, explores how brands can utilize nostalgic sensory experiences to lead to ‘hyperphysical’ impressions, looking to a Jacquemus pop-up at Selfridges.
Fashion brand Jacquemus worked with Random Studio to conceive three different spaces across London department store Selfridges for pop-up Le Bleu: a changing room installation, bathroom-inspired retail space and a 24-hour vending machine. Random Studio mixed visual, audio and olfactory experiences with eye-catching colour, sound installations and commissioned scent patterns to establish a nostalgic feeling for summer. But Le Bleu also created strong impressions digitally, emphasizing the hyperphysical nature of pop-up stores and retail installations that blur the boundaries of digital and in person. 'We want to always design spaces that are fully and most engaging in that physical moment, but they live their second life on social media,' explains Seb Price, creative lead at Random Studio. 'These hyperphysical spaces serve a dual function.'
