Many would say that the FN2 Honda Civic Type R didn't meet the high expectations set by its predecessor. However, Mugen produced a limited run Type R that would push this platform to the limit. This is the FN2 Mugen Civic Type R and it is a little pocket rocket! Powered by a 237bhp 2.0 litre naturally aspirated VTEC engine, it would get from 0-60mph in less than 6 seconds. Top speed is over 150mph. Just 20 of these rare Mugen Type R were built.
The 20% power increase came from extensive revisions to the engine. New pistons, camshaft, intake, ECU, and exhaust were added. ITs chassis received plenty of attention and the Mugen Type R now sits 10mm lower. 20mm larger brakes were also added.
When new the Mugen Honda Civic Type R cost £38,599 which was a lot of money.
