Coroner testifies about toddler's injuries in Bradley Young murder trial

Описание: HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) - The final hours of a 2-year-old girl's life were described in court by the people who tried to revive her.

Bradley Young is charged with murder in the beating death of little Kinsley Kinner. Young was the boyfriend of Kinsley's mother. Hamilton County Deputy Coroner Dr. Karen Looman testified about bruises found on Kinsley's head during the autopsy. She said the bruises indicate multiple blows to the head. She said swelling of the brain led to Kinsley's heart stopping. The injuries, according to Dr. Looman, took place minutes before she stopped breathing.

During cross-examination by the defense, Dr. Looman said some of Kinsley's bruises could have come from falling off a chair. However, she said a fall would not explain the fatal injuries.

There were tears in the courtroom; some were shed by the defendant himself. Tiffany Kinner broke down when asked to describe her 2-year-old niece, Kinsley. Tiffany told the jury she spent a lot of time with her sister Rebekah and her daughter, Kinsley. She testified she never saw any injuries on the child the last time she saw her.

Rebekah Kinner's 911 call to police was played for the jurors. Young became emotional when his voice could be heard performing CPR on Kinsley.

Law enforcement officers and an emergency medical technician who responded to the scene testified how they heard different stories from Young and Kinner as to what happened to the child. One was she just woke up screaming and went limp, another was the child fell from a chair, another was she had been hurt in a minor traffic crash. Defense attorney Frank Schiavone III asked one of the witnesses whether Rebekah Kinner implicated Young at the scene.

Late Wednesday afternoon the prosecution showed text messages between Kinner and Young, sent between mid-November and the day Kinsley was hospitalized. In one exchange Kinner told Young how she pulled down her child’s pants and spanked her. Young replied how he would have smacked her mouth so she felt it. In another Young told Kinner that they should say Kinsley was laying with us so they don’t turn it around.

Kinsley Kinner's mother was still expected to testify at Young’s trial. She pleaded guilty in her daughter's death and is currently serving an 11year prison term.
