A good day with some new visitors. We got a brief glimpse of a Blue Tit, but the camera does seem to have difficulty picking up these small birds, even on the most sensitive setting. I saw two of them on the suet ball feeder at the same time, but the camera didn't trigger.
We also had some feral pigeons in the garden. While we typically call these urban birds "pigeons", they are in fact the descendants of lost, escaped, or released domesticated Rock Doves. Wild Rock Doves nest on cliffs, and while the domesticated birds have a wider array of plumage variations due to selectively bred traits, they are otherwise indistinguishable from wild Rock Doves and breed together readily. Rock Doves have excellent navigation and homing abilities, and were bred for racing and delivering messages. Many served their country with distinction carrying vital messages during the first and second world wars.
I'm keeping a record of all visitors to the garden that activate the camera trap. The Google Sheet document can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
